It snowed here is West Virginia last week, so it was the perfect time to make a big pot of hot chocolate to warm up with. Hot chocolate by itself is great, but it gets even better when you make it on the stove-top and add some marshmallows and a peppermint spoon.
I even made them extra extra chocolaty with a chocolate dipper.
I didn’t use all of the dippers for this shoot, so I saved the extra and made some hot chocolate a few nights later with a mug of hot milk. They turned out great as the primary source of chocolate. It was an extra special treat at the end of a long day.
You can also add a bit of peppermint Schnapps – I did!
Growing up in Hawaii, hot cocoa wasn’t a comment treat to enjoy. In fact, it was generally enjoyed while on vacation in Lake Tahoe. We’ve been going to Lake Tahoe for over 30 years (God, I feel old…). Most of my family members have a time share all during the same week, so we get a mini family reunion there each year.
The last time that I was in Tahoe was about 6 years ago. That’s a bummer and I don’t think that we will be getting there in 2015 either. I really need to get my kiddo out there and get her into some ski lessons. I have such fun memories of my toes and fingertips freezing, snot running down my nose and basically hating life. But then, at the end of the day, we’d gather in the restaurant and I’d get the biggest hot chocolate my mother would allow Image may be NSFW. Clik here to view.
Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave and stir until smooth. Place mini foil cupcake liners in a pan. Fill them with the melted chocolate and stand up the candy spoons. I leaned them up through a cooling rack. Let them set and harden.
For the Hot Chocolate
Mix all ingredients in a heavy bottom pot and bring to a simmer. Serve with a dash of cinnamon and some marshmallows.
Stir the chocolate dippers into the hot chocolate to make it extra chocolaty with a touch of mint.
